She is originally from Cumbria and trained in medicine at the University of Edinburgh before specialising in psychiatry. She has worked with patients who have cancer and other life-limiting illnesses for more than ten years.
Jane’s research includes a number of systematic reviews as well as large epidemiological studies of the prevalence of depression and other symptoms in patients with cancer. She has particular expertise in the design and conduct of clinical trials; she has an MSc in clinical trials from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. She has co-led multicentre clinical trials of a new, collaborative care based, integrated treatment programme for patients with cancer and comorbid major depression, which have found the new approach to be highly effective.
